About Troop 1018 And Our Website

Many thanks for stopping by. We started the website a number of years ago to get information out to members of our troop, but along the way accumulated lots of good information about Scouting in general, outdoor activities, camping, the history of our area, and other cool and fun things.  We hope you'll cruise the site and find it interesting and informative.  Come back as often as you like (it makes us feel good to get lots of hits on the site).Three Scouts with backpacks at the western end of the C&O Canal
We're located in Dranesville, Virginia, about 25 miles west of Washington, DC, just minutes from Reston, Sterling, Great Falls, and Herndon. Although Dranesville exists today as little more than a dot on the map, it has a rich and colorful history and we invite you to read about it in the history pages of the website.
BSA Troop 1018 is sponsored by the Dranesville United Methodist Church and is part of the Powhatan District of the National Capital Area Council.  1018 is a small troop, emphasizing a wide range of activities that appeals to both younger and older Scouts.  If you're looking for a troop to join, or just want more information about Scouting, we have a page just for you.  For an overview of our currently scheduled activities, follow this link to our calendar.Three Scouts on a raft in the Shenandoah River  Many of Troop 1018's Scouts have attained Scouting's highest honor, the rank of Eagle Scout.  Follow this link to a listing of our Eagles.
For a partial listing and pictures from our activities over the past several years follow this link to our past activities. We have a very active outdoor program with at least one major activity scheduled each month. Each summer we schedule two summer camps -- one "traditional" camp and one "high adventure" camp. Our camps for Summer 2007 were at the Goshen Scout Reservation in central Virginia, and a wonderful relaxing trip sailing the Florida Keys at the Boy Scouts' Sea Base high adventure camp.
For the upcoming summer we're planning a high adventure experience at the Philmont Scout Ranch and we'll also attend our traditional camp at the Hawk Mountain Scout Reservation in Pennsylvania.
Merit Badges are a key part of the Scouting experience. For information about merit badges, resources, and a current listing of our merit badge counselors, head to the merit badge pages. Two Scouts making the Scout sign with candles in the foreground, leading a Court of Honor
