The Dranesville UMC Cemetery

Adjacent to Dranesville UMC is a cemetery that has been in use since at least the 1850s.  Apparently, during the early to middle 1900s, the small church did not warrant a full time minister and it was during this time that the cemetery fell into disuse.  At some point grave markers that had fallen were moved to a central location and stacked together.  The church has completed a special project using something akin to an underground radar to identify the actual gravesites, but this will not permit matching of the tombstones with the proper graves.

As a service to aid in genealogical research, Troop 1018 has transcribed information from the remaining tombstones to present here.

Click here to link to an MS Word document that includes the engravings on the 65 tombstones at the DUMC Cemetery. The numbers correspond with photos that we have on file.  Please email email history@troop1018.org if you want us to forward some pictures to you. The approximate location of the stones can be determined by the map at this link.

Below are a few of the pictures (low resolution) taken at the graveyard.
