Train Show & RR Merit Badge Workshop
March 2001
On 17 March we attended a Train Show and Railroading Badge Workshop in Dale City, VA. The show featured a huge HO gauge model trail layout (filling the entire gym at Sunders Middle School) and also included layouts in Z, O, S, TT, N, and G gauges. Also featured was a large Lego train layout and a live steam engine chugging around a large oval.
The merit badge workshop gave interested scouts the opportunity to complete the Railroad Merit badge and our four scouts who enrolled in the workshop completed all requirements for the badge. The work included assembling a model train car and building, learning about the operation of railroads, and safety around trains.
To complete a great day, we made a stop at Milwaukee Frozen Custard in Chantilly, where the owner, Mr. Al Casey gave us a tour topped off by a cone of what's undoubtedly the best tasting frozen custard in the DC area!!
